Agra Taj Mahal Travel Updates 2022
Agra Taj Mahal Travel Update – Tickets, Entrance, Covid – 19 restrictions, Guidance etc
Agra is witnessing both, a sharp rise in the number of cases testing positive for Covid-19 and the number of visitors to the Taj Mahal. The outcome was that the ticket window at the Taj was closed on Monday and tickets for entry to the Taj can be acquired only online now.

“With the sharp rise in the number of cases testing positive in Agra, the authorities have taken the decision to stop sale of tickets for entry to the Taj through the ticket window, a practice that began about a week back when cases fell to a minimal level in Agra. Now those planning to visit the Taj will have to book tickets online only,” the decision is made by the Archaeological Survey of India.
The irony is that the last week of the past year and the first two days of New Year saw a huge increase in the number of visitors to the Taj Mahal. Being merely 165 kilometres away from the National Capital Region (NCR) through Yamuna Expressway, the city of Agra has been a favourite destination for those living in and around Delhi. There had been about 75,000 tourists to the Taj on the first two days of 2022.
On Sunday, today alone, there were more than 35,000 visitors to the Taj Mahal. Long queues at both the Eastern and Western Gate could be seen throughout the day and pandemic protocols were slackly followed.
Agra saw 93 new cases on Saturday, taking the tally of active cases to 153. The cure rate slipped below 98% and settled at 97.87 % although the sample positivity rate, yet to witness a rise, stayed at 1.77 %. However, No case of Omicron has been confirmed in Agra or Mathura yet.
Travel Restrictions and Precautions during Agra Tour and Travel
Taking preventive measures against the Omicron variant, the Agra administration imposed fresh restrictions and asked all city hotels to keep it apprised of all their overseas guests amid the worldwide scare of the Omicron variant of coronavirus. The move has been taken as the city of Taj Mahal attracts tourists from across the world.
As part of the restrictions, the city administration has upgraded its anti-Covid mechanism to subject travellers to RT-PCR tests at bus and railway stations and monuments.
